Silk was then as now a luxury material, imported from the East. It was typically used as applications in thin strips on tunics and smokks, but from Viking settlements on the British Isles there are also finds of complete headwear in silk.
We have a few silk fabrics similar to Viking age finds. They are plant dyed by us or in colours and patterns that correspond to finds and other knowledge about Viking age silk.
