In addition to the nalbound mittens from yesterday there are also several finds of fabric mittens. Most of the fabric mittens are from Iceland, among them a pair of children’s mittens from Heynes. They are simply but practically constructed and are joined with a cord, as you can see on the photo to the left. That photo and the photo of the Akranes mitten below right are taken by dolbex and licensed according to Creative Commons.
The exception is a mitten from Akranes with a more complicated cut. It is also interesting because it has a pile on the inside. It must have been very warm and comfortable. Now when the nalbound mitten from Iceland is redated to much later, I unfortunately don’t trust the dating of the Akranes mitten anymore. It does not look like other Viking age mittens and I would not be surprised if that too is redated.
