The course is in English and video based. You will also get downloadable files as support, among others a spreadsheet which will automatically give you the measurements for your garment and a suitable cutting layout based on your body measurements. The teacher is Susanna Broomé, the author of our popular pattern booklets.
In the course you will learn:
- What we know and don’t know about tunics, dresses, shirts and sarks from the Viking age and early medieval period (around 700-1300)
- How you can find out which type of garment (including details and materials) you can make to give a good impression
- How you choose a suitable fabric
- Which other materials and tools you will need
- How you take your personal body measurements
- How you translate those into a pattern for a simple body garment
- How you place the pattern pieces on the fabric to use it as effectively as possible
- How you sew durable and good-looking seams with contemporary techniques
- How you sew tricky details, like the ends of slits and gores
- How you sew your garment together, seam by seam
- How you take good care of your finished garment
